Kunstmuseum Basel

Across the road from but inherently linked to the Kunstmuseum in Basel, this new gallery extension by Christ & Gantenbein provides a contemporary yet sympathetic neighbouring building.  Constructed from a textured brickwork that graduates from dark to light up the facade the appearance is raw and monolithic.  Aesthetic links to the original gallery and the choice of brick size ensure that the scale when viewed close up remains human and the overall effect is one of fitting into the context rather than standing out from it.
